Now for Some Nostalgia: The Kings Arcade

Kings Arcade

As you may know, arcades first rose to popularity in the United States in the late 1970s/early 1980s. They served as community social hubs and encouraged friendly competition. Kings has had a similar mission since we first opened our doors, so naturally, we had to include this entertaining, nostalgic version of social gaming into every Kings location.

We may be known for bowling, but don’t underestimate all the other exciting activities we offer. Our arcades, stocked with classic games, provide the perfect venue to get to know your date before sipping cocktails at the bar. Or challenge your kids to air hockey after pizza and a round of bowling. Here are some of our arcade favs for you to level up your next visit:

1. Mario Kart Arcade GP DX

If you’ve ever played Mario Kart on an at-home gaming console you’ll LOVE our arcade version. Sit in the driver’s seat using the steering wheel and foot pedals to race single-player, or have even more fun when you challenge one of your friends to race in the other cabinet. Side by side you’ll go head-to-head driving your karts around the fantastical worlds of Mario and friends. Throw shells at your opponents to knock them off course while avoiding those hazardous banana peels. Compete for cup titles and bragging rights amongst friends. The hardest part of this game is choosing whose kart to drive (we think Yoshi’s is top-tier)!

2. ICE Ball

Think classic Skee-Ball with a twist– special LED lighting brings ICE Ball into the 21st century! Roll balls up an inclined lane over a “ball-hop” hump into bullseye rings. The smaller the hole, the more points you collect. We typically have two ICE Ball machines so you can play simultaneously and keep an eye on your opponent in the lane next to you.

Tip: Make the competition a little more heated by putting the loser on the hook for buying apps dessert. Keep in mind, ordering the Jumbo King Pin Sundae when you win might be considered ice-cold.

3. Deadstorm Pirates

Looking for something with a bit of a backstory? This light-gun rail shooter game lets you pick a pirate to fight against enemies in the search for the lost treasure, Poseidon’s Breath. Use recoiling light guns to defeat undead pirates and a mounted steering wheel to navigate past obstacles. It’s an immersive video game that you can get lost in yourself or play co-op with a matey for double the adventure!

4. Pop-A-Shot

If you’re looking to burn some energy try shooting a few electronic hoops. The game is simple– shoot as many baskets as you can before your time runs out. It’s a fan favorite for a reason and brings out the competitive streak in any sports lover.

Tip: Follow up the game with a refreshing beverage at the bar and take some notes on how to improve your form while you watch the pros play on one of our giant screen TVs.
